The First Annual Dutchie Recipe Contest

My chubby-cheeked prince is getting bigger. He needs food to sustain his bigness. I have never been a good cook, but I try. Here's the deal:

You give me a baby-approved recipe (this means no peanut butter) and I will make it for my Dutchie. The person whose recipe he likes best will receive an amazing prize! Like a full copy of my "Metta and the Moon-Witch" second draft. Signed. By me.

The contest will end when I've tried all the recipes. Ready, set, GO!

Recipes that you cook, or just fun things to give him? recipes that you cook, you should do the chicken crescent rolls without the jalapenos. It's just diced chicken, mixed with cream cheese and rolled in a crescent roll. They cut into small pieces really easily and aren't very messy - I think he'll love 'em. They also store and warm up really well as left overs. And of course, my kids loved the tiny bow tie pasta with any type of sauce, (garlic and olive oil, alfredo, tomato, cheese). I'm thinking of finger foods that he can give himself, obviously. Oh, and any type of breakfast food is always a big hit - pancakes, waffles, eggs, etc. Hope these help. I'll try to think of more.

I will e-mail some to you. Each of my children have had their favorites, so I will enlist their help.

Just feed him what you are eating - that is what we did. I didn't buy baby food or cook for my kids cause I am a bad Mom! LOL!
Oh and what is with the PB worry? He is one and we don't really have food allergies you should be good to go. You can always test him with a small amount. Or leave him alone with my husband. When Evie was 9 months he stuffed a spoon full of PB in her mouth and then told me had no idea babies couldn't have PB before a year!!

My pediatrician said to wait until he's 2 for peanut butter. Better safe than sorry.

Here are some suggestions according to Parenting Magazine: Cooked cubed sweet potatoes
Cubes of avaocado
cubes of meat, Vienna Fingers and hot dogs (cut the same size as Vienna Fingers)
Squares of Grilled cheese sandwiches
Graham Crackers
Chopped egg yolk
Be sure and offer a sippy cup of water with each meal so he becomes used to drinking water - especially with his meals.
Love you - Mom

Quick Chicken Couscous
3 tsp butter
2 oz chicken diced
¼ cup carrots
¼ cup celery
1 cup unsalted chicken stock
½ cup couscous

1 Melt the butter in the pan and add the chicken saute’ until cooked through
2 Meanwhile place the celery and carrots in a saucepan with boiling water. Cover and cook until tender. Or be lazy like me and microwave them instead.
3 Bring the stock to a boil in a pan. Stir in the couscous. Remove from heat, cover and leave for 5 minutes or until the stock has been absorbed
Fluff with a fork and stir in the chicken and veggies –add extra stock if necessary.
