Dutch's Favorite Person

When I was little my favorite person in the entire world was my great-grandmother, whom I called Omi. We had an instant connection and I believe she watches over me still. Sometimes that happens.

Dutch, for instance, has absolutely adored Chris's dad, Greg, since birth pretty much. He calls him Bah and is eerily aware of everything that has to do with Greg. The other day we drove past a car like Greg's and Dutch was devastated when I didn't follow it so he could see Bah. If we tell him we're going over to Bah and Honey's house, but take a different route, or make a stop along the way Dutch freaks out. He knows how to get to Greg and Kellie's house! Lately every time he gets ready for the day he'll tell me, "Ready! Bah's!" I explain that we're not going to see Bah because Bah is at work. Dutch says, louder, "Bah!" as if by raising his voice it will somehow make it true.

I'm glad Dutch has someone he loves so much, and I'm sometimes VERY grateful I'm not his favorite person; it looks exhausting!

And the Baby's Name Is...

...still to be determined.

Chris finally convinced me that Jack was his name for good and forever. Then the other day we were at the mall and Chris overheard a billion kids being called, Jack, Jax, or Jackson. Now he's having second thoughts.

We still want the middle name to be Neal. Any suggestions for first names?

A List for Tuesday

Five Reasons I Write "A List for Tuesday"

1. It's nice to have a "theme" day on the blog; it encourages me to post at least once a week.
2. I love lists. I live by lists. I would be much more mentally ill without lists.
3. There are days when thinking up lists is the only thing that keeps me sane.
4. It's fun to have a tiny bit of creativity built in to my week.
5. There are some people who only visit the blog on Tuesdays!

Stolen Pictures

These are all pictures stolen from my sister Carianne's blog and my cousin Sara's blog. They are all pictures from the 3-day visit we had from Carianne and her family.

This is Dutch at the park. The picture was taken by my amazing cousin Sara and I think it shows Dutch perfectly.
Always on the move!

This is at Hogle Zoo when we first got there.
From left to right: Dutch, Nathanael, Carlye, Noah

On the carousel at the zoo.
Noah on a bald eagle, Carlye and Dutch on a dolphin.

The whole clan (minus Carl, who was photographing it)
From left to right: Dutch, Pam, Carlye, Noah, Carianne, Nathanael

As you can see, we had lots and lots of fun! Thanks to my sister and cousin for taking pictures since I couldn't find my camera!

This and That

On Tuesday I had my 32 week appointment. The baby was moving so much it was hard for Dr. Walker to get a measure of his heartbeat! "He's a wiggler!" she said. I sighed and said, "Yup, just like his big brother." Luckily, this one won't be mobile for a while yet. Maybe by then Dutch won't be such a handful!

I announced a few months ago that the baby's name is going to be Jack Neal Davis. The thing is that I don't think his name really is Jack. The more I use it the less I think it's his name. So we're going back to the drawing board for the first name (although Chris is very resistant to it). The middle name will stay the same no matter what.

Yesterday Dutch woke up at 6am and wouldn't go back to sleep. I told him "It's hard to love you this early in the  morning." He laughed and squished my face.

A List for Tuesday

Things I Got to Do This Weekend That I Haven't Done in a Long Time

  • Hug my sister Carianne, her husband Carl, my niece Carlye, and my nephews Nathanael and Noah
  • Go to the cabin and play in the snow
  • Hike up to the cabin through about 3 feet of snow (if that doesn't conjure up a hilarious vision, I don't know what will)
  • Watch 3 little someone's have their first foray with snow (although not all of it was pleasant; I don't think they expected it to be so cold)
  • Go to the zoo
  • Drive Greg and Kellie's suburban (so we could all ride together)
  • See my cousin Sara and her husband Dallin
  • Watch Dutch have so much fun and not worry that the big kids playing near him might try to hurt him
  • Get my back scratched by my sister
It was awesome to see Carianne and her family, even if they were only here for a rather whirlwind trip. Dutch woke up this morning and immediately put his boots on (over his pajamas) and said, "Cousins?" It was very difficult for him to grasp the fact that we wouldn't be seeing his cousins again for a while. He kept insisting that we were playing with "Cousins!" again today. Poor kid. He loved having so many people to play with and I know he'll miss them as much as I do.

The What-Ifs

I have reached that point in my pregnancy where I am plagued with The What-Ifs. There's a constant stream of worry flowing through my brain. Here is an example of some of the things I was wondering just today:

  • What if Chris dies before the baby is born?
  • What if Chris dies after the baby is born?
  • What if Chris gets a really horrible disease and can't work anymore?
  • What if Dutch gets severely injured and is a vegetable for the rest of his life?
  • What if Dutch gets kidnapped?
  • What if Dutch hates the baby?
  • What if the baby is missing a limb?
  • What if the baby has some physical or mental limitation?
  • What if the baby hates me?
  • What if Bo dies?
  • What if Bo attacks the baby?
  • What if Bo gets really sick and I have to put him down?
I will spare you the rest. But as you can see they all follow the same vein of worrying to death about my family. It's not just my little family either, I worry about my big family too.

When a baby comes you know it's going to change things, but you can't always predict other things that will change everything. These are the things I worry about - the things you can't predict.

This happened when I was pregnant with Dutch, although they followed more of a "What if I'm a terrible mother?" type of vein. Now I know that EVERY mom is just doing her best, so I don't worry so much about being a terrible mother. Some days I will be and some days I won't be and I just have to hope that the good outweigh the bad or that Dutch selectively remembers only the good.

Anyway, those are some of my What-Ifs. Do you have any?

A List for Tuesday

Five Things You Might Not Know About Me

1. I am terrified, TERRIFIED, of spiders in all forms
2. I love listening to NPR (National Public Radio) in the car
3. Yesterday I found a diamond earring that I thought was lost forever!
4. I want another dog
5. I absolutely, positively do NOT want to live in Utah for the rest of my life

P.S. I have the most patient dog in the whole world. Dutch just spent the last half hour putting sunglasses on Bo and taking them off. Over and over again. Bo just sat there, patiently waiting for it to end.

Pregnancy Complaint - This Big Belly

Yesterday and today I am not feeling great. I am tired and nauseated and not in the mood to be touched at all by anyone. I'm not sleeping and my back is hurting at that spot between my shoulder blades that insures I can do nothing about it, but complain.

The most obnoxious and in-the-way part of this pregnancy, however, is this belly. Now my belly is not SUPER big, like some women, but it's in the way nonetheless. I can no longer bend over daintily. I can't put on socks or shoes or even pants without smashing my belly, which makes me MORE sick. My hips hurt from having to lay on my sides all the time, and a lot of my maternity shirts are getting too short.

Anyway, that's my complaining. It always feels better to get it all out!

Maternity Photos

Today was... a big day. I didn't sleep well last night and Dutch woke up before Chris left for work, which is VERY early, especially for Dutch, but even more especially for me. Then we went down to Provo to play with Julianna and Aunt Marianne and Julianna's best friend Kimberly. We got Julianna all baby-registered at Target and Dutch was a huge terror the entire time we were there, but we still managed to have fun. Then as I was about to leave Aunt Marianne's Dutch locked himself in my car. He was strapped into his car-seat, so it wasn't a HUGE deal, but still very sad and time-consuming.

So when we got home I was pretty much ready to just go to bed and wait for tomorrow, but then a little piece of happiness came in the mail. My maternity pictures came!

Last week I got some pictures taken by the very talented D'Arcy Benincosa and they turned out great! Since there are over 80 pictures I won't overwhelm you. Here are five of my favorites. I'll post more later!

A List for Tuesday

Five Questions I'd Like to Know the Answer to Someday
(in no particular order)

1. Why does Dutch take the keys off of my laptop? (This is the SECOND laptop he's done it to!)
2. Do people with ugly babies know their babies are ugly? (For instance, Mom and Dad, did you know Heather was ugly when she was a baby?)
3. Why is it that babies grow out of the cutest clothes first?
4. When things go wrong why do people start spouting cliches?
5. Neither Chris or Dutch like to cuddle, but they'll cuddle with each other. Why don't I get any cuddles?
