Cold Baby

Okay all you mamas out there, I need your help. My beautiful little baby boy has always been colder than average (while still managing to heat up everyone else who holds him). He's been sleeping through the night, but last night he woke up at 3:30 and he was freezing! His arms and hands were ice cold, even through the pajamas.

So what I'm asking for is suggestions. Keep in mind that Dutch HATES being swaddled so his arms are pinned down. He doesn't want anything covering his hands (he likes to snack on them when he's half-asleep). So what do I do to keep my little guys arms and hands warm?

The zip up blanky! Is it not working? It's sleeveless, so he still has access to his hands, but keeps his little body warm. That worked the very best with mine! Love you!

The other thing I used to do was to get a great big blanket and cover the whole crib. But since he is still sleeping in the carseat then that won't work. That was the only way you stayed warm. I put you in blanket sleepers but your hands were always freezing. It is the hazard of being a baby, I think

You can a) turn your heat on or b) buy a space heater and put it in his room during the night. I would start it like 1/2 hour before YOU go to bed, and then right before you're ready to jump into bed, go in his room and check the temp. It should be warm, so just put the setting to low-so it continues to heat w/o getting too hot-and go to sleep.
We started having to do this with Noah because he rolls a lot when he sleeps and never has his blanket on him like an hour after he goes to bed and he was always waking up with freezing hands and feet. So, just keep the whole room warm. I hope you figure it out!

It's not his whole body that needs to be warm, just his little hands. (And he doesn't sleep in the carseat anymore, I won't let him).

See the problem?

When you warm the air, you warm his hands too. They like everything warm because in your tummy, they were snug. So, it is okay, if to warm his hands his body will be a little warmer. Noah definitely sleeps better since we put the space heater in his room-he wakes up with warm hands and feet and cheeks. But you do just have to make sure it's not too hot. So, if the heat is on, make sure the blanket isn't too heavy, or that he isn't wearing too many layers.
Also, I've noticed that when Noah's arms are warm, his hands are too. So, he wears a long sleeved shirt and a jacket in the house (our furnace is broken) and his hands stay warm. Just some food for thought...you'll have to experiment and find what works for him.

My children have always been abnormally warm. I used a heating pad in Luke's basket to keep it warm for him, but would take it out when we was in it. Luke did not like having his arms pinned down either. I laid half of the blanket (the one you made him) down and laid him on it, then wrapped the other part over him. It didn't "pin" his arms down but they were still under it. Also, not a high chance of it getting over his face. Also, I layered him up pretty good. Things will get better when he can roll over and control his own sleeping position.
