This morning I was awakened by the saddest sound in the world: Bo howling. Now if you've ever heard Bo (our blind chocolate lab) howl you know it's the saddest sound in the world. If you haven't heard Bo howl, allow me to try to put into words the depressiveness of it.
First of all, he only does it when he's positive he's alone. When he feels that he's been left behind and abandoned. (Why he was doing it this morning when there were at least 4 of us here is beyond me.)
Secondly, because he doesn't do it very often, his voice sounds very scratchy. It's not what you think a howl should sound like at all. It's more like a very hoarse elephant blasting a call.
Lastly, and saddest of all, he was doing this right outside my bedroom door. When I opened the door he hurried onto the bed, curled up at my feet and promptly fell asleep. He's still asleep on my bed now. Poor Bo-Bo.

Homely Housewife
Lately I have been rocking, absolutely rocking, the Homely Housewife Look. What is the Homely Housewife Look? I'm glad you asked. It's when you have no make-up on, or better yet, days old make-up on. Your undereyes are dark, showing off the fact you haven't slept in days. Your clothing is mussed and slightly dirty, accentuating your horrible figure. Your hair is limp and undone, if it's been washed it's frizzy and/or wet. If it hasn't been washed it's sticking to your head in some places and sticking up at bizarre angles in others. This is the type of look you sport only when you've given up all sense of femininity. When you've allowed motherhood to turn you into an unrecognizable old lady. Or when your husband is thousands of miles away.
Yessir, I've been totally rocking this look for the past few weeks. And I see no need to stop until my husband comes home. Pictures will not follow, because I'm too lazy to pull out the camera when I'm in Homely Housewife mode.

Dutch Hates Me
Fact: I have not had a full night's sleep in months.
Fact: Dutch and I sleep in the same room and he cries non-stop until I pull him into bed with me.
Fact: Even when he's in bed with me he won't sleep.
Fact: I think I might die of sleep deprivation.
Fact: I hate this.

A Crazy Week!
In the last week I graduated, went to a wedding, went to a baptism, and had a birthday. Did I mention ALL of these things happened in a different place that involved a lot of driving? I've been in several different states and lots of different cities. I am tired, but I am happy.
Thank you for all your well-wishes for my graduation and my birthday. Hopefully I will get a family newsletter out to share all the information with everyone, even those who don't read my blog. I will also post my graduation speech in the next day or so. It's short, so I'm sure you'll be able to get through it. :)

Update
Just a small update on our going ons. Pam presented her thesis last evening and did a fantastic job. For a solid hour she held a conference room of 50 people with rapt attention. At the end she received a standing ovation and you could sense the feeling of awe and, even some jealousy in the air.
Chris is loving his general surgery rotation. The surgeon I am working with is allowing me to do a lot. On my third day in the OR Dr. Maalouf finished removing a gallbladder, steps away, and says, 'Now Chris will close, I will see you in the physicians lounge.' So I do all of the closing and suturing at the end of the cases and I am loving it.

The Little Moments
With Chris so far away for so long I am going to be blogging about things that would otherwise have flown under the radar. Just warning you.
This is the first time Dutch covered himself up at night. I thought it was too adorable to not take a picture. Luckily, he stayed asleep. I just love the thought of him snuggling down when he goes to bed!
