Five Things I Hate About Being Pregnant
(in no particular order)
1. People stare at me as if any moment I might explode.
2. Women feel it's okay to tell me their horror stories about when they were giving birth.
3. My back hurts ALL THE TIME!
4. Sometimes I forget I'm pregnant and bump into things with my big fat belly.
5. I know that someday soon I will have to push out this kid and that does not sound fun at all.

A Best Friend
I intended to write a blog about our recent trip to Utah. We visited Chris's family and had a baby shower and got generally spoiled rotten. But I don't want to write about that right now; I'll do that later.
Right now I want to write about the book I'm reading. It's called "Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son's First Year" by Anne Lamott. I bought it because I enjoy her writing and because on the back it talked about how she had to get used to the idea of having a boy - just like I did. I'm not even 30 pages into the book, but I put it down specifically to write this blog.
I miss having a best friend close enough to walk or drive to their house. I am so lucky to have a wide array of friends that serve all purposes in my life. I sincerely believe I have the most understanding, funny, and interesting friends on the planet. But none of them are here in Pennsylvania.
To be honest I haven't really tried all that hard to make friends. I spend most of my days writing and growing my baby and I am content with that. But when reading about Lamott's best friend Pammy I get nostalgic for my own best friends. Yes, Chris is my "best friend" but he's not a girl and he doesn't understand some of the things that I'm going through. Not the way another woman would.
Anyway, this isn't a pity-party just a heartfelt thanks to all of my best friends out there. I love you and miss you and wish you were here!

My Worst Nightmare
I have my last deadline of the semester on Saturday. [For those of you who don't know, I'm pursuing my Master's in Writing Popular Fiction.] After I had finished editing, deleting, re-writing, and writing my next 30 pages I hit save - and disaster struck. Somehow (no, I don't know how) it DELETED my pages from both my jump drive and my computer. The file still existed, it was just blank. BLANK! After I went into the bedroom and hid under the covers for 15 minutes (with Bo snuggling against my feet) I decided to get over it and start again.
I had been working on those 30 pages for the last month and now I have to re-write what I had already re-written, this time only having two days. It's a daunting task that isn't done yet, but I've made great headway. Anyway, it was my worst writing nightmare come true, but now that it's happened it's not so bad. In the future I will not only save my work in two places, I'll print it off BEFORE I save it!

Our Little Family
At the persistent pestering of my sisters, Chris and I decided to start a Davis family blog. We named it after our chocolate lab. His name's Bo. He's blind.
We took him to the vet the other day and the vet told us that there's a chance that with extensive (and expensive) surgery Bo could be a seeing dog. "That's hopeful," he said. I had to restrain myself from punching him. He acted as if Bo was broken.
The thing is, Bo's been blind since before we knew him. An incident involving a shovel to the head when he was a year old left him that way. He's almost six now. He's happy, he's healthy, and he doesn't need to see to know how much he's loved.
I guess that incident gave me a new perspective. There are things that some people just can't understand. Like how a blind dog isn't broken.
